Flooding in Calgary
As you probably already know, the city of Calgary has suffered through one of the worst floods in its history. The city and citizens of Calgary have handled the situation with amazing grace and helped each other through a very though time. None of our students have been hurt, nor put into a difficult situation. However, the city is partially shut down due to this natural disaster.
Due to sever flooding in downtown Calgary, much of the city center has been shut down. Many of the buildings in downtown Calgary have been flooded and there is currently no water or electricity available to any downtown buildings.
The city is predicting that water and electricity will be returned mid June 25 or 26, but it’s not a certainty. It may be sooner or later than that.
Our school building has sustained some minor water damage, but not very much. The space is usable with some minor clean up. However, without water or electricity, we are not able to start our cleanup efforts.
Because of this, we will be closed for the week of June 24 while we wait for electricity to return and give us a chance to clean up.
We will be offering our students the following options:
1. Existing students in Calgary can take the week off and extend their stay with an additional week when the school is back to normal operation.
2. Existing and incoming students can change their destination and study at any of our other schools at no charge for the same duration they are currently registered for plus an extra week.
3. Incoming students for the week of June 24 and July 1st, have the option to contact us and change to another one of our campuses before arrival at no additional charge.
If you choose to move to another one of our destinations, please inform us immediately so we can find your appropriate accommodations.
Update on GV Calgary
Calgary has experienced some flooding but the situation is
getting better all the time. As of this time (June 24, 2013, 5pm - Mountain
Time) the School is without power as part of the power restrictions in downtown.
GV Calgary has experienced no flooding itself and is safe and dry. We are very
hopeful that we can resume classes by Wednesday June 26. Students and our
partners are advised that GV Calgary will not run classes on Tuesday June 24. A
special schedule will be put into effect to make up classes. We will provide
further updates each business day as the situation improves further. We
anticipate that students arriving next week will be able start classes on July
2. Our GV homestays report no problems for students staying with them.
